Faculty of Engineering Rabigh Branch - Industrail Engineering Department

Industrail Engineering

About Us

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is undergoing rapid changes in various sectors of economy. In particular, manufacturing firms, engineering enterprises and organizations are becoming more complex. To be competitive in the global environment, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia requires sufficient number of industrial engineers who are well trained to design, install, maintain and manage complex industrial operations and manufacturing systems. In line with this development, the Department of Industrial Engineering was established in the Faculty of Engineering, King Abdulaziz University, Rabigh Campus in 2009.

Currently, the department offers a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering program. Industrial Engineering is a discipline known for its breadth of scope and applications. It is not only concerned with technology, but also with people and operational issues. It combines scientific and technical knowledge with human sciences to design, plan, and analyze systems that involve people, materials, money, energy, equipment, information and other related resources. The most distinct aspect of industrial engineering is the flexibility it offers. Because of its broad perspective, industrial engineering is applicable in a wide variety of industries, including: manufacturing, health care, banking, insurance, transportation, construction, utilities, and government agencies. However, to maintain the depth and the focus, the curriculum is designed to meet the specific and unique needs of employers in surrounding industrial areas. Hence, manufacturing systems and engineering related operations are the application domain of the curriculum. As such the curriculum emphasizes on the analysis and design of manufacturing systems. It prepares students to work in activities such as manufacturing process planning and control, automation, production methods and standards, computer-aided manufacturing, engineering economic analysis, facilities design and optimization of industrial operations. For industrial engineering graduates to function effectively within interdisciplinary environment, the curriculum gives more emphasize on broad engineering sciences courses.

Our vision is to become a center of excellence in Saudi Arabia of prominent research, education, and collaboration that produces, attracts and retains industry leaders, decision makers, and researchers in the field of Industrial Engineering.

Our Mission is to prepare distinguished and creative engineers through high quality applied education based on Islamic values and ethics to pioneer in research, consulting and knowledge transfer all for ultimately serving and developing the society by making systems productive and efficient

word of the chairman

Global and regional demand for industrial engineering work force in various organizations and institutions has been escalating in the recent years. This is due to the ability of industrial engineers to use a wide spectrum of distinctive techniques and methods to solve engineering problems for various industries. These techniques and methods enable improving performance and productivity levels of organizations in the manufacturing and service industries. Industrial engineers are capable of solving technical problems from a system-wide perspective with the objectives to optimize resources utilization, increase organizational productivity and quality, improve work systems, reduce costs and improve industrial safety conditions.

The Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering (BSIE) program aims at preparing qualified graduates to positively impact work environments based on Islamic values and ethics. Our students are equipped with sufficient theoretical and applied expertise in the fields of operations research, information systems and computing, quality engineering, simulation and optimization, ergonomics and safety, supply chain management, as well as manufacturing and production systems..

The Department of Industrial Engineering seeks to narrow the gap between engineering education and the industry. This is through developing relationships between the department and surrounding industries through seminars, consultations, applied research, summer internships, field visits and senior projects. Thus, the department always encourages and directs its students to senior projects of an applied nature..

With the achievement of ABET accreditation for the BSIE program, the continuous improvement strategy of the department is to enhance its academic performance by improving the level of its graduates in terms of teaching theory and application, as well as its publications output in terms of research. This imposes the growth of the department in terms of curriculum development, increased number of laboratories, as well as human resources through the currently sponsored faculty members on scholarships pursuing their graduate/post-graduate studies in top-class universities worldwide. The department is currently preparing a graduate program along with other plans related to the implementation of the ISO program. This in return will contribute to improvements in the world rankings of the department and the university.

With best wishes to our students - engineers of the future - to succeed in serving the nation and in the development of society in the land of revelation and the two Holy Mosques.
